JFS recognizes that nutrition plays an important role in addressing mental health. The Clinical Nutritionist will work with a client’s integrated treatment team to support a holistic approach to wellness.
In this impactful position, you will assess clients’ nutritional needs, develop tailored care plans, and provide expert guidance to support mental health and physical wellness. Your expertise will help empower individuals on their journey toward healthier lifestyles, fostering positive change and long-term recovery.
Primary Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive client assessments to evaluate nutritional status, including dietary habits, medical history, and lifestyle factors
Develop individualized nutrition care plans aligned with mental health treatment goals and medical conditions
Develop meal plans for those with limited income and/or accessing the JFS food pantry
Provide education on nutrition principles, weight management, and healthy eating habits to support mental wellness in a group setting
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate nutrition strategies into overall treatment plans
Monitor client progress through follow-up consultations and adjust care plans as needed for optimal outcomes
Document all assessments, interventions, and progress notes accurately within electronic medical record (EMR) systems
Advise agency on billing best practices for nutritional services
Community outreach which may include developing presentations and outreach initiatives
Skills
Strong knowledge of physiology, nutrition science, and dietetics principles applicable to mental health populations
Familiar with health coaching techniques to motivate behavioral change and weight loss goals
Involves client’s family/significant other in education as needed and appropriate.
Adapts and develops nutrition education materials and techniques to accomplish client goals.
Seeks to participate in care coordination meetings.
Contributes to the nutrition education of allied health professionals in the agency
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in nutrition, dietetics, or related field
Must be a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and provide annual verification
At least one year of nutritional counseling experience with individuals
State Dietary License as required by state
Understanding of the intersect between mental health and dietetics
Understanding of the State and Federal Regulations associated dietetics
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Remains up to date on advances in nutrition and diet therapy through continuing education
