Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Lead Nutritionist for the Department of Pediatrics. The Lead Nutritionist oversees the functions of the nutrition and breast-feeding components of the WIC Program that serves an indigent population of women who are pregnant, postpartum or breast feeding, and to infants and children up to age five (5).
Develops, implements, and evaluates nutrition services and nutrition education project related to the Statewide Nutrition Education Plan and overall State Plan.
Supervises and directs the activities of the nutritionists, dietetic technicians and breast feeding staff.
Collects data and prepares reports as required by State WIC Office, and the University Hospital Department of Ambulatory Care Services.
Acts as a nutritionist consultant to the WIC Director.
Assesses nutritional needs of participants in the program and provides individual and group nutrition counseling and education in compliance with WIC regulations and guidelines.
Prepares curriculum for nutrition education classes and conducts regular classes.
Monitors staff compliance with WIC regulations and guidelines relating to nutrition services. Addresses programmatic concerns and communicates them to Administrator.
Evaluates and develops literature for distribution.
Assists in planning, coordination, implementation of and participates in the community/faith based initiative.
Assumes responsibilities of the WIC Administrator in her absence.
Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the Service Excellence Program.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Must be a Registered Dietitian (RD).
Bachelor’s Degree in dietetics or nutrition.
Three (3) years of professional experience in dietetics or nutrition or successful completion of an approved dietetic internship may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
Must maintain current A.D.A.registration.
Supervisory experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrates good customer service and service excellence at all times.
Strong supervisory and communication skills.
At least two (2) years of community nutrition experience.
Bilingual in Spanish, French or Creole.
