The Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applications for an Instructor. This non-tenure track faculty position is responsible for assisting in the overall planning and management of the Coordinated Program (CP). This is an accredited educational program for individuals who meet the academic requirements for professional education in dietetics as specified by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). Upon completion of the program, graduates are awarded either a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or a Master of Science in Nutrition, have completed the required supervised practice hours for Registered Dietitians (RD), and are eligible to take the registration examination to become an RD. This program is a two and a half year, 6 semester (26 month) training which is accredited for a maximum of 36 students by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
The nutrition program at UIC offers degrees at the bachelors, masters and PhD levels. Our MS CP began in 1998 and is uniquely situated to meet the “graduate level entry” which will soon be required by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for entry level Registered Dietitians. The department has an award-winning teaching garden which has been incorporated into all of our foods courses and a new metabolic kitchen for conducting feeding trials. We are the only nutrition program in a Research 1 University in the Chicago area and are among the few US universities with the full range of health sciences colleges, which include the Colleges of Applied Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Social Work, and Public Health. These features attract many outstanding undergraduate and graduate applicants to our program.
Specific responsibilities include:
Management of the daily aspects of the Coordinated Program including student advisement, evaluation and mediation; planning and coordination of internship site placements for supervised practice rotations, visiting internship sites on a rotating basis, maintaining student achievement of CRDNs throughout each supervised practice rotation, evaluation of coursework assigned in supervised practice, initiate and maintain facility contracts with supervised practice sites, attend clinical education meetings, advise prospective students throughout the entire application process into the CP, maintain student records and coursework completion toward a degree in Human Nutrition.
Participating in undergraduate and graduate course and curriculum development, assessment and evaluation. Development of policies and procedures for effectively managing all components of the program (such as program admission, retention and completion policies).
The successful candidate must have an earned Master’s degree with emphasis in human nutrition or related field and Registered Dietitian credential with at least 3 years of clinical experience.
