Colleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services, facilities, employee housing and capital planning, dining services, conference services, early education services, the Bay Tree Bookstore, ID card services, and business and financial analysis for these areas. Through these units, educational and developmental programs and services are offered to all members of the campus community including students, faculty, staff, children and external constituents.
CHES provides on-campus housing and dining services to nearly 8,500 undergraduate and graduate students in ten residential colleges and six multi-college affiliated residential communities which support single students and students with families.

Under the supervision of a dining manager and/or the direction of higher level cooks, the Assistant Cook follows instructions in food preparation for residence hall meals and other events, providing the highest quality of service to the customers. The Assistant Cook is responsible for food preparations for assigned menu items and follows the rules and regulations of the University. Ensures health and safety guidelines are practiced. This entry level position often serves as the prep cook. This position is expected to prepare entrees and to develop food preparation skills and performs other duties as assigned.

Experience working in a food service, food preparation, and/or general kitchen maintenance.
Knowledge of or the ability to prepare sauces, soups, vegetables, baked potatoes and entrees.
Communication skills and abilities sufficient to interact with co-workers, to direct staff work and provide training to less experienced staff.
Communication skills and abilities sufficient to interact with customers. Must be able to take orders for display cooking or other special events.
Knowledge of appropriate temperature requirements for the safe serving, handling and storage of food.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
