The Cook Assistant is responsible for assisting in the preparation of foods as assigned by the management, Sr. Cook, Cook, Leads using standardized recipes and procedures. The ideal candidate for this position will have previous experience working as a prep cook, enjoy working in a busy, high volume
kitchen atmosphere, have a positive attitude, and be capable of taking direction well and multi-taking effectively.
The pay rate is $13.00/hr. Flexible schedule desired.

Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the preparation of foods as assigned by the management, Sr. Cook, Cook, Leads using standardized recipes and procedures.
Wash, cut, prepare a variety of vegetables, slice and portion meats.
Prepare mise en place for recipes and/ or prepare recipes
Perform other related duties as assigned by the leadership, such as deep-fat frying and grill cooking, sauté, wok steaming, etc.
Assist and understand the weighing and measuring of ingredients.
Assist in placing prepared foods into pans to be served on the hot line, garnish appropriately
Taste foods to determine their quality, texture, consistency, and taste.
Grill a variety of proteins for preparation or serving.
Perform basic knife cuts on meats, fruits and vegetables.
Transport foods from dry and refrigerated storage to kitchen as needed.
Follow daily production sheets and record items if necessary.
Assists in the assembly and set-up/break down of serving areas.
Perform other duties as assigned within classification.
Safety and Sanitation:
Maintain temperature logs and take temperatures of food regularly and record data as instructed by management.
Maintain quality and sanitary standards of State and City Health Departments and Vanderbilt Campus Dining codes.
Maintain clean and orderly work area and complete other general cleaning duties, such as mopping/sweeping floors and emptying trash cans and clean equipment.
Report to management any safety hazards and equipment in need of repair.
Assists in keeping the kitchen, refrigerators and store rooms sanitary and orderly by cleaning utensils, equipment, fixtures and work areas.
Work in a team-driven environment, take direction, offer direction and assist with problem-solving.
Greet customers entering dining location and follow FRESH customer service guidelines.
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. regularly
Ability to bend, stoop and kneel while stocking shelves
