The Department of Applied Health at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is seeking candidates for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Nutrition. Responsibilities include: (a) teaching/mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, (b) developing and maintaining an active research agenda, and (c) demonstrating a commitment to professional, university, and community service. Teaching assignments may include evening courses. Summer assignments may be available, depending upon enrollment and funding.
Requires an earned doctorate in nutrition, dietetics or closely related field. Candidate must demonstrate effective teaching at the university level and the ability or potential to secure internal and external funding and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals. The position requires exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with members of the university and local community. Working in collaboration with other faculty, both in research and teaching, is strongly encouraged. Due to the role that this faculty member will play in the new Masters of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics program, the Registered Dietitian credential and a minimum of 1-2 years clinical and/or sports nutrition experience is preferred. Ability to provide research leadership is preferred. Preferred area of research is open and interests may include food service management; health promotion; dietary intake methodology and interventions; eating patterns and diets in diverse populations; appetite and satiety; nutritional epidemiology and biomarker studies; sports nutrition; and prevention of obesity, diabetes, or other chronic diseases. A demonstrated interest in working with or teaching diverse students is preferred. Terms of Appointment
Continuing tenure-track position for nine months. Regardless of rank, the candidate hired will apply for tenure after a probationary period. Summer appointment is contingent upon availability of funds and enrollment. Beginning date of appointment is August 15, 2019.
