A staff position providing quality retail food services, the Student Center Cook prepares and cooks menu items for students, faculty, staff, and visitors while on duty at the Student Center at Unity College. The Student Center Cook works with the Student Center Shift Supervisor to respond to student needs and request. Specific duties include (but are not all inclusive):
Responsible for preparation of food while on duty and with advance preparation of food for next shift as needed.
Prepares ingredients for menu items and cooks food according to recipes for daily meals and specials.
Assists in inventory of food and beverage as directed.
Occasionally performs shift cash in and cash out, maintaining accurate amount of money and petty cash in cash drawer.
Occasionally manages point of sale system, including swiping ID cards, collecting money from customers, and ensuring that no non-meal-plan customer consume food or beverages without paying.
Occasionally responsible for washing dishes and pots.
Occasionally directs work-study students or student employees while on duty.
Demonstrates compliance with the rules and regulations of the college pertaining to the Maine State Liquor Laws.
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and either five or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience plus:
Cash management/reporting and inventory control accountability.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to read and comprehend written and oral instructions, write correspondence, reports and memos.
Ability to respond effectively to customer inquiries or complaints.
Must be of legal age to sell/monitor sale of alcoholic beverages.
Proficient in the use of cash management and/or point of sale systems.
Valid driver's license with a good driving record is required.
This is a Part-Time, 31-week a year position that will work a rotating schedule which will include day, evening, night, and weekend shifts as well as extended hours required as needed. Must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling responsibilities and in meeting the college's needs.
While performing the duties of this job is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell. Is required to frequently talk and hear and occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.
