A staff position providing quality dining services, the Catering Assistant Cook supports catered meals and concessions for students, staff, and visitors at Unity College. The Catering Assistant Cook executes the vision of the Catering Manager to prepare food, set up, attend, and clean up at catered meals, events, and concessions. Specific duties include (but are not all inclusive):
Assists in preparation, set up, and clean-up of catered events, including moving items from kitchen to event and back manually and/o in vehicle as needed.
Manages point of sale system during catered events and concessions as needed, including swiping ID cards, collecting money from customers, and ensuring that no customers consume food or beverages without paying.
Assists in cooking and plating menu items according to recipes for specified catered meals, events, and concessions.
Sets up displays and presentations of catered food and dï¿½cor as directed.
Ensures proper handling, disposal, or distribution of leftover food to minimize waste.
Places weekly orders with vendors and receives and verifies deliveries.
Serves and refills food at events promptly and courteously, occasionally alone.
The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma required and either two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience plus:
Ability to maintain professional demeanor under pressure whether working alone or with others.
Cash management accountability.
Serve-Safe Certification; or must be obtained within six months of hire.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Must be of legal age to sell/monitor sale of alcoholic beverages.
Proficient in use of cash management and/or point of sales systems
Valid driver's license with a good driving record required.
Ability to read and comprehend written and oral instructions.
Ability to respond effectively to customer inquiries or complaints.
This is a part time position averaging 20 hours a week. Expected to work a flexible schedule to include day, evening, weekend shifts and special events. Working extended hours required as needed. Must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling responsibilities and in meeting the college's needs.
While performing the duties of this position is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell. Required to talk or hear and occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.
