The Diabetes Educator's focus is on consultations for patients that are newly diagnosed and/or have complex diabetes management needs. The Diabetes Educator makes decisions guided by evidence based best practices, as well as policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.

Posting Department Description The goal of the YRMC Clinical Education (CE) Department is to provide educational programs and services to assist nursing and support staff to gain, maintain, and improve competence in patient care. These goals are derived from and are consistent with the mission and philosophy of YRMC, the American Nurses Association's (ANA) Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice, the ANA's Standards and Criteria for Staff Development and the Arizona State Board of Nursing Advisory Opinion standards. Our Clinical Education Department is responsible for coordinating and providing orientation, in-services, and continuing education for nursing and support staff, coordinating the Nurse Extern's Program, and for coordinating nursing students' orientation and clinical experiences. These programs are planned in collaboration with unit-based educators (UBEs), physicians, unit directors, directors of non-nursing departments (e.g., Laboratory, Pharmacy, Radiology) and with nursing faculty members. The CE Department also provides diabetes inpatient and outpatient education and wound, ostomy, continence services; coordinates and develops patient education programs; and facilitates activities of the Patient Education Committee and the Interdisciplinary Practice Council (IPC). The department maintains partnerships with local colleges, universities, volunteer groups, and with community services. The CE Department is comprised of the Clinical Education Director, an Academic Coordinator, diabetes educators, a Wound, Ostomy, Continence RN, a Staff Development Specialist and three Clinical Educators. The CE Director is a Registered Nurse with the state of Arizona and is Masters prepared in Nursing. Start Date Open Until Filled Work Week Monday - Friday Daily Hours 8 Bi-Weekly Hours 80 External Education Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Healthcare related field within 3 years of hire. Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or Registered Nurse. Basic life support for healthcare providers. Education Preferred: Master Degree Healthcare related field. Registered Nurse candidates with Certification as a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). External Experience Experience Required: 2 years of professional practice experience working with the diabetic patient population. Computer proficiency (must be able to pass computer proficiency assessment) Experience Preferred: 3 years of experience as a Diabetic Educator in an acute care hospital setting.
